nzb rss
« on: May 08, 2010, 10:37:46 AM »

Hi there,

Just wanted to post that I have just tried the new nzb rss feed.  I am not sure how much I personaly would use it as I don't automate to this extent

(maybe I'm missing the point, if someone could explain)

Non the less I wanted to say that it is great how this site just keeps getting better.  I'm not trying to be a kiss ass but credit where its due, the devs don't often get positive feedback.  I love newsgroups and things have certainly changed over the last 10 years. Next you'll be reading my mind and sending the nzb direct to my server.  Thinking about it, you're not that far off, lol

Great work my man, keep it up.  I'll donate again soon.

Actually now that I think about it a bit more, can anyone elaborate on how you personally would use the rss feed and the benefits ?  I would genuinely be interested as I haven't had much sleep and feel I am missing the obvious.  cheers.

the benefit is that you can automaticly download thinks you like
for example if you want to download every new south park 720p release you just have to a rule that looks something like this:
South.Park*720p*
and when a nzb shows up on my site and it is accepted on 1 of the rules you put into your client it will be automaticly downloaded to your computer.

i dont know witch usenet client you use
if you use sabnzbd than its very easy just read this:
http://wiki.sabnzbd.org/configure-rss-v2

if you use another client let me know i look it up for you

Thanks for the reply / info.

Whilst I do indeed use sabnzb and have the link you provided open in my next to read tab :-) , cheers.
I still like to browse my release sites to see what is out.  I can see that if you watch a tv series for example that is maybe regularly released by the same group and rarely nuked then this is actually kind of cool, actually very useful, but what about with lets say films.  Don't you find that there are too many releases of a title ?  I personally tend to stick to scene releases though not exclusively and go for scr or above but a big release will have various releases along the way from different groups.  Does this mean that you just leave the client to download whatever comes in and choose the keepers based on post download rather than my current method of checking release sites pre download ? From your example I can see that you can specify say 720p but even then you might get one with ac3 and one with dts.  Am I barking up the wrong tree or do I get the general idea that this rss lark is good for certain situations but maybe not control freaks like me :-)  ?  I'm off to read the link you posted but any further thoughts appreciated.

you got the idea imho its awsome for tv but for movies you take to long to set up a good filter for just one download
but for tv it really is nice once its sets up every day when you come home/wakeup (whatever timezone your in) your favorite tv shows are already on your computer and you can watch them right away without searching for them, downloading, extracting,...

I can see the attraction for tv shows and I am now in the process of looking at setting it up myself. Many thanks for the heads up and the reply.  Cheers
